Lemongrass is used in herbal teas and other nonalcoholic beverages, and the oil of Lemongrass is used in candy and baked goods, as well as a topical treatment for athlete's foot, ringworm and muscle soreness. Oil from lemongrass is also widely used as a fragrance in perfumes and cosmetics, such as soaps and creams. When taken internally, Lemongrass is considered a carminative and is also believed to have antimicrobial and antifungal properties. It is also thought to act as a central nervous system depressant. Lemongrass is a specific remedy against nematodes, and the oil shows activity against some bacteria. The herb contains five constituents that are thought to inhibit blood coagulation.
