History and Uses:
Pulsatilla grows wild in the dry soils of almost every northern and central European country and can also be found in western Asia. It is a thick, woody flower consisting of rather thick stalks, which are covered with fine, silky hairs and dull, dark purple flowers. The whole plant has a strong acrid taste but is eaten by both sheep and goats, though cows and horses will not touch it. It has been included in the British Pharmacopoeia and was formerly included in the United States Pharmacopoeia. Pulsatilla contains a glycoside, ranunculin, which is converted to the acrid volatile oil, protoanemonin, when the plant is crushed, and in turn is then converted to solid anemonin in the dried plant. Anemonin is a crystalline, odorless substance that acts as a purgative and depressant. Anemonin from the fresh plant, however, can cause allergic reactions to the nose, throat, stomach, and skin. Therefore, it is recommended that only dried Pulsatilla be used in herbal remedies. As an herbal medicine, this herb has been used to treat painful conditions of the reproductive system and digestive problems. Pulsatilla may also help patients sleep better. Homeopathic practitioners sometimes use Pulsatilla to relieve eye problems, toothaches, earaches and indigestion. The herb is used in homeopathic formulas for "patients with conditions accompanied by a thick yellow or white discharge," and among the conditions for which Pulsatilla is sometimes recommended are vaginal yeast infections and upper respiratory infections. Pulsatilla said to be an excellent relaxing nervine. It is said to be helpful for the relief of painful periods (dysmenorrhea), ovarian pain and painful conditions of the testes. Pulsatilla has also been used to reduce tension reactions and headaches associated with these conditions. The antibacterial actions of this herb are thought to give it a role in treating infections that affect the skin, especially boils.
Ingredients: 100% Pulsatilla Botanical Powder - Our products contain 100% pure plant-based/natural materials using no fillers, grains, yeast, sugars, binders, excipients, starches, or synthetic materials.
Recommended Dosage:
Take one (1) capsules, one (1) time each day with water at a morning or mid-morning mealtime. Do not exceed recommended dosage.
Contraindications:
Because anemones contain the acrid compound, anemonin, Pulsatilla can be poisonous and must always be used under the direction of a qualified health care provider. The herb is harmful if eaten fresh (and only the dried plant is used medicinally), and repeated handling may cause skin irritation. The anemonin compound in Pulsatilla is a powerful irritant, and overdoses cause violent gastroenteritis, vomiting, looseness of the bowels and convulsions. This herb is recommended for use by qualified practitioners only. Pulsatilla is not given to patients with colds.
