History and Uses:
Cleavers is
a very valuable plant, being perhaps the best tonic to the lymphatic system
available. As a lymphatic tonic with alternative and diuretic action, Cleavers
may be used safely in a wide range of problems where the lymphatic system
is involved. These include swollen glands (lymphadenitis) anywhere
in the body, especially in tonsillitis and adenoid trouble. Cleavers is helpful
in skin conditions, especially the dry kind, such as psoriasis. It is said to be helpful
in the treatment of cystitis and other urinary conditions where there is pain,
and it may be combined with urinary demulcents for this purpose. There is also
a long tradition for the use of Cleavers in the effective treatment of ulcers
and swellings.
This may have its basis in lymphatic drainage, which helps to
detoxify tissue. Cleavers acts directly on the kidneys much like Uva Ursi. Its action is weaker and milder, although its specific action on
acute inflammation or irritation of the urinary tract is stronger than most
treatments. Hypotensive principles have been isolated in Cleavers, and such
activity could be important in the treatment of heart disease.
Recommended Dosage:
Take two (2) Capsules, one (1) to two (2) times each day with water at mealtimes.
