History and Uses:
Grapefruit is actually a hybrid newcomer to the fruit realm.  The genus, Citrus, was originally called kedromelon by the Greeks, but the Romans changed it to citrus.  Grapefruit is believed to be native to Jamaica, and it is sometimes confused with the pomelo (Citrus maxima), which is a larger, pear-shaped relative to Citrus paradisi. The Grapefruit tree may grow to a height of thirty feet, and Grapefruits are round with a diameter of between four to six inches.  Their thin skin may be either completely yellow or yellow with a pinkish hue, and the pulp of the fruit may be yellow, pinkish or reddish. It can be more or less sharp-tasting, acidic, sweet and fragrant.  Grapefruit is so named because it grows in grape-like clusters.  The United States is the largest producer of grapefruit, accounting for over forty percent of global production.  Approximately sixty percent of the Grapefruit crop is used for the manufacture of juice and canned grapefruit, while the rest is sold fresh.  Grapefruit Seed is high in vitamin C and potassium and a good natural source of folate, iron, calcium and other minerals.  It is high in fiber and low in calories and contains bioflavonoids and other plant chemicals that are believed to protect against malignant diseases and heart disease.  Pink and red varieties of Grapefruit are high in beta-carotene, a precursor of vitamin A.  Grapefruit Seed is well known as an antifungal agent, and their consumption can destroy many different types of parasites and assist the body in producing beneficial bacteria.  A biologically active natural ingredient found in the seeds are said to kill Strep, Staph, salmonella, E. coli, Candida, herpes, influenza, parasites, fungi and traveler's diarrhea, and are used as an antibiotic, antifungal, anti-protozoan, antiviral, antiseptic and disinfectant.  Primary known constituents include numerous polyphenolic compounds (quercetin, hesperidin, rutin, apigenin and campherol).

Recommended Dosage:
Take one (1) capsule, one (1) time each day with water at a morning or mid-day mealtime.

Contraindications:
Those who are allergic to citrus fruits may have reactions to Grapefruit Seed.  Certain medications may be activated (or deactivated) with the use of Grapefruit (or any citrus), and if in doubt, you should ask your health care provider. Grapefruit (unlike other citrus) contains furocoumarins, a substance that seems to affect the way your body absorbs certain medications, and this may enhance or possibly even counter the efficacy of prescription medicines (including cyclosporine, blood pressure, some antihistimines, erectile dysfunction medication, heart medications), so if you are taking any medications, check with your physician before taking this product.
