Horseradish Root is native to Europe, but the plant is now found worldwide. The flavor of the Horseradish Root is so bitter that it brings tears to the eyes, which is why it is included in the traditional Passover meal, in order to commemorate the suffering of the Jews under Pharaoh's rule. Horseradish is an excellent diuretic, and it is also good for digestion problems. Herbalists combine Horseradish with honey for coughs and asthma treatments, and externally, it can be used to alleviate the pain and stiffness caused by rheumatism by stimulating blood flow to inflamed joints. Horseradish is considered a good expectorant that is soothing for respiratory problems. Horseradish can be used both orally and externally. For relief from a bad cold, mix Horseradish Root with honey and warm water, or take one capsule up to three times daily. To make a poultice, add cornstarch to fresh Horseradish, and apply to the affected areas in a gauze bandage. Horseradish Root is a natural source of Quercetin and vitamin C. Do not take large quantities at one time; it could cause diarrhea and excessive sweating.
