Botanical SafeGuard- Herbal Support for GERD - is a botanical alternative medicine formulation, containing a blend of all-natural herbal extracts for the effective support for GERD.  GERD, commonly called Acid Reflux Disease or Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease, occurs when the lower esophageal sphincter does not close properly, and as a result, stomach contents leak back into the esophagus.  The lower esophageal sphincter is a valve between the esophagus and the stomach, and when refluxed stomach acid contacts the lining of the esophagus, it causes a burning sensation in the chest or throat, and this is commonly known as heartburn.  GERD can also cause a dry cough and bad breath.  Hiatal hernias may contribute to the onset of GERD as does alcohol use, being overweight and smoking.  GERD can cause serious complications such as inflammation of the esophagus from stomach acid, which can further cause bleeding or ulcers.  Also, scar tissue can narrow the esophagus and make swallowing difficult.

• Cayenne (90,000 H/U)

Please note: While we use higher strengths of some ingredients in this formula, we do not sell those strengths as single herbs. We do, however, offer them in lesser strengths and offer links to their respective pages here: Chamomile 1% (this is a higher strength than the 4:1), Fennel Seed, Meadowsweet, and Slippery Elm Bark.

Recommended Dosage:
Take one (1) to two (2) capsules with each meal, or during symptomatic episodes.

Contraindications:
Do not use in conjunction with prescription diuretics.  Do not take if currently taking Digoxin® or Wafarin®.  May have adverse reaction with internal corticosteroids.
