Chlorella is a single-celled alga grown specifically for its nutritive value. It is similar to the blue-green algae Spirulina, but it contains more fiber and is somewhat less expensive. Chlorella is one of nature's most nutritious substances, containing large amounts of Vitamin A, Vitamin B12, Iron, Zinc, Copper, and a host of other vitamins and minerals. Chlorella also contains a large percentage of chlorophyll, which is essential in aiding digestion, cleansing the bowels, and purifying blood. Studies in Asia and elsewhere have shown that Chlorella has a positive effect on liver function. The cellulose membrane of Chlorella that is not digested binds to dangerous heavy metals, speeding their elimination from the body. By cleansing the bowels and aiding liver function, Chlorella keeps the bloodstream free of wastes. Chlorella has also been shown to sustain healthy lung function and substantially increase one's resistance to cold and flu. Chlorella is truly one of nature's great gifts, providing essential vitamins and nutrients as well as promoting the healthy function of nearly all the body's systems. |

Spirulina is a blue-green algae found in saline lakes and ponds in Central and South America and Africa, and is used throughout the world as a nutritional supplement. Spirulina has similar properties to Chlorella, but it is higher in protein. Spirulina contains chlorophyll, which is essential in maintaining healthy digestion and cleansing the bowels. Spirulina also contains 65-70% vegetable protein. The protein contained in Spirulina is especially beneficial, as it contains none of the harmful fats or cholesterol found in meat. It also contains a host of vitamins and nutrients, and is one of the few non-meat sources of Vitamin B12. Spirulina is especially high in beta-carotene, calcium, iron, niacin, and phosphorus. Spirulina is used for health rejuvenation and weight reduction, and is considered an excellent blood and colon cleanser. Spirulina is possibly the most nutritious substance known to man. Adding Spirulina to cultured immune system cells significantly increases the production of infection fighting cytokines. A number of animal studies have shown Spirulina to be an effective immunomodulator. |

Dulse is a red seaweed that grows in the North Atlantic and Northwest Pacific. The seaweed grows attached to rocks in the inter-tidal zone, where the water is cold, the current is swift, and the ocean bottom is clean. Dulse grows so quickly in the summer that it can be picked every two weeks. It is used as a food and as a medicine. Dulse is eaten as a tasty snack in Nova Scotia and elsewhere. It can be eaten sun-dried, fried, baked with cheese, or eaten fresh off the rocks. Dulse can also be used as a condiment or sprinkled on salads and soups. It is cultivated for such use in Nova Scotia and sold in the produce section of grocery stores under the name 'Sea Parsley'. Dulse is very high in Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, iron, fluoride, and potassium and is a rich source of non-animal protein. It is used medicinally due to its high vitamin and nutrient content. Dulse is a terrific nutritional supplement for dieters and vegetarians who lack sufficient protein intake. Dulse is also found as a common ingredient in many nutritional drink mixes, particularly "green drinks".
